What’s This About?
Notion has introduced a new feature with version 3.3 called Custom Agents. These intelligent assistants work autonomously and complete tasks based on predefined triggers or schedules, without requiring user intervention. Unlike previous automation solutions, the agents operate continuously in the background and can communicate with external services like Slack, Figma, or HubSpot. Setup is done in natural language — no programming skills required.

Custom Agents represent an evolution of existing automation concepts. While earlier solutions typically relied on manual requests, these agents work continuously and proactively. Users describe in simple language what task the agent should handle — the artificial intelligence then automatically configures the necessary workflows. Every action is logged and remains traceable, ensuring transparency and control.
Use cases range from automatically answering recurring questions and categorizing support requests to generating regular status reports. Teams can, for example, set up an agent that summarizes project progress weekly or feeds relevant information from a knowledge base directly into Slack channels. Until May 2026, the feature is available free of charge; after that, a credit-based pricing model will be introduced for Business and Enterprise customers.
